This is such a tragic loss to your congregation, and to Seattle. We are occasional visitors to University Christian Church who have always enjoyed the service, the people, and the music. I often talked to George before we left, to comment on some special nuance in what we heard. Because of good friends who sang in his ensembles, we had dinner with George a couple of times and were always impressed with his cordiality and deep commitment to producing music as good as it could be, for the musicians and the audience. George was one of the most deeply engaged, well informed, and enthusiastic musicians I have ever known. May he find peace.
I sang in George's choir at University Christian Church for a long time. His weekly humor, passion, and dedication with all of us was really very special. He usually selected works that challenged us, and made us sound pretty good too. His presence was large in our church and in this city and I will miss him. My good thoughts and prayers go to his beloved ones and many friends everywhere.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the larger Seattle area community regarding the tremendous loss of such a beloved person.
We have been going to OSSCS for many years & always enjoyed George's educational & amusing introductions
to the music he was about to conduct. His musicality was superb, especially with Handel (we always went to the Messiah) & Bach.
He was a tremendous asset to Seattle &, indeed to a much wider area as well.
he will be sorely missed - how can we find a worthy successor?

Thank you for posting your sermon on George Shangrow. Like so many I had the honor of performing with him the St Matthew Passion at Meany in 93 when the Camerata Chorale was invited to join OSSC and the Columbia Boys Choir. George was an inspiring presence in my musical life after returning to Seattle in 1979. I will continue to carry him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.
