In March, 2007, the congregation of University Christian Church made the decision to stay within its building and transform its ministries in order to more faithfully communicate God’s good news in the 21st century. Over the past 6 months we have developed task groups to pursue new visions for ministry in the areas of worship, education, evangelism, outreach, use of our building for ministry and shared ministries with other congregations. These efforts are starting to bear fruit.
Revamped Worship Space: September 9 marked the beginning of worship in a newly reconfigured space within our historic sanctuary. Removing pews and adding chairs have created a more intimate and flexible setting for worship while preserving the beauty and reverence of the sanctuary.
New Educational Opportunities: September 9 also marked the beginning of new Sunday morning class offerings. Adult and Youth forums are interspersed with 3–4 week class sessions. Each session offers a range of choices for learning through Bible Study, topical lecture/conversation, informal coffee and conversation, and The Group (a class open to all but especially relevant to adults with physical or developmental disabilities).
