Celebrate pride week with us. Come watch For the Bible Tells Me So.

When: Friday evening, June 24th at 7:00 pm in the University Christian Church lounge.

Sponsored by: University Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), University District Ecumenical Parish, University Congregational UCC, Emerald City MCC, and University Baptist Church

About the Film: Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate? Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in thecrosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

Sacred Grounds: Coffee and Poetry in the Month of May with U Baptist & U Christian

Coffee and Poetry, a gathering, hosted by both University Baptist and University Christian, begins this Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am and will continue throughout the month of May. We will meet in the University Christian Church library and coffee and tasty pastries will be provided.

What should I bring (you might ask)?

1) yourself and your love for people, coffee and pastries, and beautiful words.

2) bring a poem or two, or some other form of written word that speaks to who you are and your faith journey, maybe something that means a lot in your life. Other than poems you might consider song lyrics, a prayer, or a short piece of prose.

3) a willingness to share and ask questions. There is certainly no pressure to share a poem and listeners are welcome. Our hope is that those who bring a piece of writing will be open to sharing why it speaks to them, maybe an experience it is related to or how it relates to their faith journey, understanding of God, etc..and then those listening will be able to ask questions and engage in good conversation.

A three-part series coordinated by Eugene Kidder.

Beginning March 6, Jim Stockdale will lead a discussion on the Raver Memorial and other pieces of art in the church. The presentation may also include a "walking tour" of the church to view pieces and places possibly forgotten. There will be time to discuss the religious implication of these pieces.

On March 13, Eugene Kidder will relate the history of "The Family'" a copper enamel panel depicting stages of the life of a family, newly installed in the Lounge. Eugene will lead a discussion about this piece, and the meaning attached to it. Additionally, the group will venture to the Sanctuary to study the organ and feel its importance in the religious life and worship of this community.

On March 20, we will conclude the theme of theology and art through a discussion on creativity and examples of art works by members of our community.
